Mathew Knowles, father of Beyonce, recently told TMZ that nobody in the music business cared about R. Kelly’s personal life back in 1998 when Destiny’s Child recorded a track with him because he was killing it at the time. He went on to add that back then, artists were judged by their talent alone, so nobody cared about the bizarre stories surrounding Kelly, including that he married Aaliyah when she was 15 in 1994 and settling a lawsuit with a woman who claimed that he had sex with her when she was underage.
Beyonce was 17 when Destiny’s Child recorded a song with Kelly, though the song never made a Destiny’s Child album. Mathew says he never let Beyonce or Tina Knowles out of his sight during their work with Kelly.
Lady Gaga apologized this week for recording with Kelly in 2013.
