During the airing of Irv Gotti’s “Tales” on BET, Kanye West premiered the new track “Brothers” in which the rapper apologizes to a long lost friend. Most fans on social media believe Ye is referring to Jay-Z.
When fans had a chance to review the lyrics on second and third listens, they believe Kim Kardashian’s husband’s desire for reconciliation with a formerly close relationship is definitely about Beyoncé’s husband.
On the “Brothers” track featuring Charlie Wilson, Kanye spit these emotion-filled lyrics on wax:
“You should’ve listened dawg, when your baby was born/Should have shouted you out, dedicated a song. I can say I was wrong, I can take the blame, ‘Cause brothers don’t always have to share the same name/We met when we was young, I forgot the grade/When last one in the race was a rotten egg.”
Kanye also mentioned flying out to Paris, which fans believe is referring to Watch The Throne from their celebrated joint album in 2011.
“So I’m sorry for all the miscues/How about I admit that I miss you/I miss the fam and our brotherhood/I just wanna make sure that my brother’s good,” he raps. “So I ain’t embarrassed or above/ Flying out to Paris for a hug/ Or picking up the phone just to call up/Picking up the phone hope it’s all love.”
Ye’s and Jay’s friendship began to fray after Jay and Bey skipped out on Kanye and Kim Kardashian West’s wedding in 2014 – and at the last minute at that. There has always been the feeling that Beyoncé does not trust nor like Kardashian, whom Queen Bey believes tried to use her to climb the ladder of respectability.
In 2016, Kanye went on to exacerbate the tension when he went on a tirade during one of his concerts about Jay not allowing their children to play together. He was also hot when, not too long after that, Jay failed to check in on him and Kardashian after she was robbed at gunpoint in Paris.
But now, perhaps, this is Kanye’s effort to make up to his billionaire buddy.
